Terra

While the Coral and Aqua works are inspired by the underwater world - by coral reefs, water, movement and the intense colours of the sea, Terra brings me back to the land.

The collection is inspired by the colours and patterns I find in the earth: rocks, minerals, dried landscapes, bark, soil and weathered surfaces. I’m drawn to the way nature combines colours - earthy browns, ochres, deep reds, muted greens, warm neutrals.

The patterns are equally important. Nature repeats forms and textures, but never in exactly the same way. A rock might have layers, cracks and lines; bark has a rhythm; the surface of the earth is marked by time and weather. There is structure, but also constant variation.

I wanted Terra to capture that feeling. The pieces have a sense of being shaped by natural forces rather than perfectly designed. I allow the surfaces and patterns to develop organically, so that each piece is different.
