Becoming

This collection is rooted in my experience of heartbreak and the emotional disorientation of a pending divorce. The forms are inspired by Janus – the Roman god of endings, beginnings and transitions. Janus is often depicted with two faces: one turned toward the past, the other toward the future. This became the core metaphor of the work.

In my sculptures, the figures echo this duality, but the faces are left without eyes. The absence of sight reflects the uncertainty of my present moment. I cannot clearly see the end - the dissolution, or the beginning - the reconstruction.

The works are made with stoneware clay, hand-built and fired multiple times. The surfaces are layered, uneven, and weathered. They mirror an internal landscape marked by grief and healing. While intimate and autobiographical, the collection invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences of transition - the space between who we are and who we are becoming.
